The sledding doesn't get any easier this week against the Vikings.

Kevin Smith - RB - Lions Lions RB Kevin Smith exits with hurt shoulder
Smith had gashed the Skins for 101 yards on 16 carries and 18 more on three catches before the fourth-quarter injury. We'd betting it's not serious, but rookie Aaron Brown and Maurice Morris are handling the workload for now. September 27

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Lions coach Jim Schwartz shed no light on Kevin Smith's shoulder injury at his Monday press conference.
"We're not into giving competitive advantage to other people," Schwartz said, detailing how his experience as a defensive coordinator makes him hesitant to give out injury information about key offensive players. Unfortunately, we probably won't know Smith's status for Week 4 until next Sunday at 12PM ET.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that the Lions consider Kevin Smith's (shoulder) status "week to week."
This doesn't tell us a whole lot, but "week to week" players typically miss at least one game, and the fact that Smith couldn't finish Week 3 isn't a good sign. Expect Maurice Morris to start in Week 4 against Chicago. It's a poor matchup, though, and Morris isn't talented enough to make a big impact.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Wednesday that Kevin Smith (shoulder, knee) will be a game-time decision Sunday at Chicago.
Smith did not practice Wednesday. "We will just see how that plays out this week and see what we can get out of him," Schwartz said. "Kevin is really important. We have a dynamic playmaker in Calvin Johnson who can get open downfield, but that is largely dependent on how we run the football." If Smith can't play (we're betting he won't), Maurice Morris will draw the start.

Kevin Smith - RB - Lions Kevin Smith listed as questionable
As expected, he'll be a game-time decision against the Bears. We'd lean towards predicting that Smith won't play, but he's definitely a good enough player to use if he's active for the contest. Check back around 12ET Sunday. October 2

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Kevin Smith aggravated his shoulder injury and also had a foot problem Sunday, so Morris came in and rushed 14 times for 63 yards. Smith's injuries are not serious, but he has been pretty banged up all year and is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry on the season. Look for Morris to spell Smith a decent amount in the second half of the season.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Lions coach Jim Schwartz confirmed that Kevin Smith is in no danger of losing his job to Maurice Morris.
"Kevin is our workhorse," he said. "I don't think that anything has changed. Maurice is our complementary running back." Smith hasn't scored a TD in three games, but projects to benefit from Calvin Johnson's (knee) expected return. The Lions are much more explosive and harder to "stack the box" against when their double-team commanding wideout is on the field.

Coach Jim Schwartz admitted Smith tore "at least" one ligament, and surgeons will find out if there's further damage to the knee while performing the operation. The injury isn't known to be career threatening, but it's certainly dealt an uppercut to Smith's already declining value in dynasty leagues.
